I’m Jack Wells, a CBT therapist and researcher based in Edinburgh. I trained here, at the University of Edinburgh — one of the UK’s leading programmes for cognitive behavioural therapy — and I still contribute to research into what makes treatment work.
Sessions are currently delivered online by secure video, which means you can work with an Edinburgh-trained therapist from home, whether you’re in Morningside or the Borders. The evidence is clear that online CBT works as well as in-person for most difficulties. In-person sessions in Edinburgh are planned — you can join the waitlist to hear first when they open.
Training & credentials
- MSc Psychological Therapies (CBT pathway), University of Edinburgh — awarded with distinction
- Active researcher at the University of Edinburgh, investigating how brief CBT-based interventions work in NHS Scotland services
- Working towards BABCP accreditation, practising under regular clinical supervision from an accredited CBT therapist
- Experience with both adults and young people
CBT is the gold-standard talking therapy recommended by NICE and delivered across the NHS. My research background keeps my practice grounded in what the evidence actually shows. There’s more on my background and approach, and on how CBT works.

Sessions & fees
Sessions last 50 minutes and cost £80, with a five-session block available at £350. Most courses of CBT run between 8 and 20 sessions, with a planned ending — the goal is to leave with skills you can keep using, not to stay in therapy indefinitely.
We always start with a free 15-minute consultation: a short, no-obligation call to talk through what’s going on and work out whether CBT with me is the right fit. Full details are on the fees page.
